A small knife from Sarajevo, Bosnia. This one dates slightly earlier to the Ottoman rule era rather than the later types found from the late 1880s -1890s in the Habsburgian occupation period. This example is about 1850 -1878.
The single- edged steel blade is upcurved, terminating to a sharp upward point. Engraved stamp of Sarajevo near the forte. A shallow fuller runs parallel to the spine. The hilt carved from bone scale grips with a curled pommel. Silver alloy backstrap, studs, and ferrule. Wood interior sheath covered in white metal decorated with stippled floral designs. Attached to a leather belt with brass studs and an iron buckle. An earlier and unique style, quality bichaq, complete with its original sheath and belt.
