A fine khanjar from Syria during the time of the French Mandate period. Syrian knives are known for their intricate and beautiful mosaic inlays.
The curved, double- edged steel blade presents three central fullers that transition into the point. The hilt is carved from layered segments of brass, goat horn, and bone. Decorated with insets of dyed bone, nacre, brass strips, nails, and pewter stars representing the Syrian national colors. Brass pommel plate with circle- dot engravings. The sheath has a full iron exterior with a wooden interior lining. Traditional Syrian niello designs on the iron mounts. Attached are two iron suspension rings. A fine khanjar of great quality and craftsmanship in traditional Syrian construction.
