The steel blade is double- edged, straight with a medial ridge, tapering to a point. The base near the hilt is unsharpened as a ricasso. The flared hilt is carved from wood with finely bound iron wire around the central grip. On one side, decorated with four metal alloy studs, and on the reverse, four circular ivory inset pieces. The pommel plate of metal alloy with pommel cap. The sheath is leather with a crocodile skin section. Attached with a braided leather arm loop. A quality example, nicely adorned and complete with sheath. It has some age to it and may be from the Mahdist period during the British war campaigns.
