The popular Soviet Ak-47 Kalashnikov rifle fevolutionized the modern gun, leading its design to eventually become the most widespread weapon used around the world. Newer variants followed, allowing it to be easier and cheaper to produce. The AKM Series replaced the grandfather Ak-47, with many Soviet and Eastern Bloc countries developing their own variant. One Romanian version was the Romarm Cugir GP Wasr 10/63. The bayonet used for this rifle was the AKM Type 1, which was also produced in East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Russia, starting in 1959. Equipped to every AKM rifle, it was both extremely durable and versatile.
The grip is one piece molded bakelite hilt and pommel with a steel lugnut. Its stainless steel blade ended in a clip-point with a sawtooth spine along one edge. A leather retention strap helped with the security of the hand. The sheath was composed of a leather frog belt, a rubber insulator, and a steel sleeve. The sheath tip features a lug at the end, allowing for the blade window to be placed into the lug, becoming a wire cutter, with the rubber insulator allowing to cut electrified fencing.
Both knife and sheath are complete with matching serial numbers. This knife was included with the purchase of the Romarm Cugir GP Wasr 10/63 underfold stock, imported by Century Arms International, with an original stamped date of 1970.
