A fine prestige blade of a replica throwing knife that would have been used as an emblem of societal high rank during the Mahdist period and thereafter. Used during ceremony or parades and rallies to rouse ansars before battle. Associated around a man of Nubian heritage and the Sufi devotion known as Mahdi, heralded in 1881 as a defender of Islam and local sovereignty in the Sudan from British occupiers.

Forged iron throwing knife form with two leaf shaped blades, one protruding from the lower base at about a 45- degree angle upward. The other at the top extremity at about 110 degrees angle outward. Both blades are connected to sectional joints with very sharp spikes. Decorated on both sides in circle, crescent, and linear engraved motifs. Missing its hand grip, which would have been reptile skin, leather, or vegetal fiber. A rare form of blade, unlike most, with spiked joints and well executed decorations for the type.
