A U.S. Desert Storm era Air Force pilot's survival knife made by the Ontario Knife Company. The company was founded in 1889 in Ontario County, New York, and had since established a reputation for producing high- quality knives and tools. OKC was a prominent supplier of knives for military, law enforcement, outdoor, and hunting purposes.

The 499 pilot's survivor knife has a single- edged parkerized steel blade with a medial ridge taping into a clip- point end. A broad single fuller is present on the top half with a saw- back spine. Steel guard. Leather barrel grip bound by a green nylon paracord lanyard. Steel hexogon nut pommel stamped "9-88" for September 1988. Leather sheath with hilt strap, belt loop slits, and brass rivet snaps. The central pouch holds a sharpening stone printed, "C280 PV A PRODUCT BY NORTON PIKE". Stamped on reverse is of the sheath is a date of 1987 and detailed product numbers. Capped in an aluminum chape. The sheath has been personalized on the backside from its former owner with the last name, "Merriman" written in red.
