An Omani khanjar likely produced in Muscat around the mid- 20th century. Highly decorated in silver mounts and embroidered wire with an upswept sheath.
The curved steel blade is double- edged with a prominent forged central ridge. The blade may be of Indian manufacture for the Arab market and mounted in Oman. The hilt, flared at the pommel, is carved of elephant ivory complimented with silver mounts and fittings. Decorated in repoussé brass and silver sheet. The sheath in matching brass sheet repoussé with tightly bound brass and silver wires embroidered finely in intricate patterns. Silver belt mount of four silver rings and two domed silver caps. With a fabric felt backing. An attractive and very good quality Omani khanjar of elephant tusk and silver mounts.
