Hippopotamus hunting harpoon of the Ngbandi People or closely surrounding neighbors. The steel arrow shaped head has a medial ridge and flared barbs on each side. Two more pairs of flared barbs extend down the long steel socket on opposite sides. Wooden shaft with strips of iron and copper bindings. From an old Belgian collection. Ca. 1900.
An old collection tag on the steel socket reads " M. Clovis Piērard Dr. en Sc. Pol. et Soc. 4 rue de N. D. Débonnai Mons". Clovis Piērard was born in 1896 in Dinant and died in Mons in 1974. He was a liberal Belgian politician and a doctor in political and social sciences, a civil servant, journalist, and director of La Province de Mons, as well as an author.
