A large Congolese spear from the Mongo people or neighboring tribes. The broad leaf-shaped spear head is made of steel, blackened at the center with linear grooves on one half of the blade that taper into a medial ridge toward the point. The grooves are offset on the reverse side. There is a circular hole cutout and edged notchings near the base.
Wooden shaft with plant fiber wound to attach the spear head. Small section of copper binding on the shaft. Massive and heavy iron octagonal butt spike at the end. From an old Belgian collection. Ca. 1900.
