A fine khanjar from the Kurdistan area of Eastern Turkey and Northern Iraq during the Ottoman Empire reign. Its hilt and blade form reminds of the small Ottoman hancers of the 17th century.
The blade is flat, slightly curved, and double-edged composed of a tight crucible Damascus steel watered pattern. The I- shaped hilt of dark wood almost entirely ornamented in silver mounts decorated in silver granules and filigree bands. The central grip section holds a rectangular faceted carnelian stone with red translucency. Wooden interior sheath covered in highly chased and embossed silver. A finely crafted example with considerable age, a nicely patterned blade, and attractive silver decoration with a contrasting red stone.
