Ex. Greek Art Market (2010)

A khanjar from the Kingdom of Jordan made in the same construction as Syrian khanjars. Levant knives are known for their intricate and beautiful mosaic inlays.

The curved, double- edged steel blade is slightly thicker in the center. The hilt is composed from polished layered segments of brass, goat horn and bone. Decorated with inlays of nacre within brass strips. The brass pommel is engraved in swirling designs. The sheath interior of wood covered in brass sheet decorated in crescent and dot punched motifs. Brass wire bound near the base. Attached is a small iron suspension ring. A khanjar of a more modern construction but of good quality and craftsmanship. This khanjar was purchased in Jordan in the 1980s from the previous owner. On a personal note, this khanjar was one of the first items that initiated the start of the collection.
