Smaller arm dagger of fine quality from the Northwest Azande of the Southern Sudan / CAR / Congo Region. This dagger is grouped here due to its similarities to Sudanese arm daggers rather than the more southern form. It has a double-edged steel blade with a central rib tapering to a point. The hilt is finely carved from elephant ivory engraved with black circle-dot motifs and linear designs. The pommel is disc-shaped with a brass coin. The sheath is crocodile skin with detailed red tooled leather work and a connecting leather arm loop. Fine craftsmanship example.
